Ever been asked to present an x-ray on a ward round? Have you looked at a patients x-ray and been intrigued as to what is going on? Then this course is for you!

The Manor’s Interpretation of X-rays (MIX) Course is an one day course designed for third year medical students, nurses, radiographers and acute practitioners. It sets out to introduce a systematic approach to the interpretation of x-rays.

Format of the day: lectures & workshops; 9am-3pm   


  • Basic radiation physics 
  • Role of x-rays in the management of the patient  
  • Chest x-ray
  • Abdominal xray
  • Limb x-rays

Course objectives:

The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to interpretation of plain film radiographs

At the end the attendee will be able to:

  • Discuss how  radiographs are produced.
  • List the indications for radiographic examinations.
  • Discuss essential radiology terminology.
  • Identify normal landmarks on radiographs
  • Begin to understand how to identify pathological findings and formulate a diagnosis.
