The Generic Instructor Course is overseen by the Resuscitation Council (UK) and Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG). Both organisations have a number of sponsoring Provider Courses that are approved to participate on the course.
The course is designed to train potential instructors how to teach the Provider Course.
Who the course is aimed at:
Only those Providers who have successfully completed an ALS, EPALS, NLS or APLS Provider Course and were recommended by the faculty for instructor training are eligible for a place on our Generic Instructor Course.
Please note that ATLS is not a sponsoring course. If you are seeking a place on an ATLS Instructor Course, you need to contact the Royal College of Surgeons.
Pre-course materials comprising a manual, e-learning modules and specific allocations to prepare are made available to candidates on the GIC website (www.gic-online.org/vle) one month before the course and the candidate is advised to read these carefully and prepare the allocations given to them.
The face to face element of the course is run over two days and comprises lecture, demonstrations, discussions and practice stations. Whilst the course is designed to teach the candidate how to teach adults effectively, it is essential that the candidate has excellent core knowledge of the relevant Provider Course.
Assessment & Certification
Candidates are continually assessed throughout the two days.
